Tracking your visitors is a must for any shopkeeper hoping to improve the shopping experience and their conversion rate.
At this time, the only way you can track visitors is on a premium shop. There are several site statistics trackers available for use. None has every possible feature, and each has their strengths and weaknesses.
Google Analytics (free)
Statcounter (free/premium)
GetClicky (free/premium)
CrazyEgg (free/premium)
Once you set up your statistics counter, you can install it as follows.
Log in to your CafePress account.
Click "View All Shops" from the center column under Shop Management
Click "Customize / Templates" for the shop where you wish to install the code.
Click "Custom HTML"
Scroll down to the Footer*
In the very bottom of the Footer textbox, paste your tracking code.
"Save" this page.
It may take up to a day or two for your site tracker to start registering visits and showing them on your site tracker account.
Note that you can have more than one tracker installed. In the example above, trackers from Statcounter and Google Analytics are installed. Each counter does involve some web resource, so don't overload your site with them.
Special Google Analytics integration with CafePress Premium Shops:
CafePress has the option to for you to install just the Google tracking "number" in your premium account. This is not currently available for any other tracking service. Note that if you use this option, remove the Google code from your Footer or you will be doubling your traffic numbers unintentionally. To use this option, follow these directions:
Go to your "View All Shops" under "Shop Management" from your main account page.
Click on the shop id link for the shop where you wish to insert your GA tracking code.
Scroll down and click on "Update Tracking Information"
Follow the setup instructions there. You will be taking just the tracking id (in the format UA-XXXXXXX-X) and enter it into the text field.
Click "Save".
Again, it may take a while for the tracker to start registering visits, and don't forget to remove this Google code from your Footer if it is installed there.
* In most cases, stat counters should be the last thing on your page, just above the closing "body" and "html" tags. Some people think it is better to put the counter at the top of the site where it can catch the traffic in case someone clicks a link before the entire page loads. However, having it at the top of your site could cause your site not to load at all in the event that the stat counter causes an error.
